Our first report1 on the action of strong nucleophiles on pteridines concerned the conversion of 2-methylthio_4,6,7_triphenylpteridine (la) into 2-amino-4,6,7-triphenylpteridine (lb) and 6,8-diphenyl-2-methylthiopurine (2) (ratio 3/l) by -KNH2 in liquid NH3 at -33OC.
