✦ Synopsis
There were no other side effects of mianserin, so the RLS might have been the cause of the poor response to mianserin. It is also possible that the RLS militated against the patient's having a natural recovery, since her depressive symptoms were subsequently controlled by a subtherapeutic dose of nortriptyline. These speculations may be supported by the suggestion made by Clough (1987) that depression is a common complication of RLS. Thus, we suggest that once RLS develops, mianserin should be discontinued.
