The synthesis of perhydroazulenic lactone 8, a potential precursor for several helenanolides is described. Its structure is determined by X-ray diffraction of the corresponding alcohol 2.
During the past three years several groups have reported on the synthesis of pseucioguaianolides possessing a B-oriented methyl group at C-10, commonly known as ambrosanolides
