Proton tunneling splitting has been measured for the S, + S, origin band of the tropolone: N, van der Waals complex by recording its laser-induced fluorescence excitation spectrum in a supersonic jet. A large decrease in the magnitude of the tunneling splitting, from 19.4 cm-' in bare tropolone to 6

✦ Synopsis
The fluorescence excitation spectra of jet-cooled tropolone-Rg,(Rg=Ar, Kr, Xe) van der Waals r.omplexes in the A *B2-g 'A, region have been measured to investigate proton tunneling in the excited state of the complexes. We found that the intermolecular vibrations in the A 'B1 states of tropolone(OD)-Kr, and tropolone(OD)-Xe, couple with the proton motion.
