โœฆ Synopsis

Proteins of the Brain and CSF in Health and Disease is a timely, current assessment of the role of brain and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteins in neurological diseases. The author, an internationally renowned pioneer in the field of neurochemistry, has utilized her extensive knowledge and experience to develop the subject matter comprehensively in a logical scientific format. All chapters are succinctly presented in a style which reads well and is very informative. Topics covered in nine chapters deal with the dynamics of CSF and central nervous system (CNS) proteins, cell-mediated immunity, CSF protein techniques and their clinical applications, CNS and CSF protein origins, CSF enzymes and their diagnostic significance, polyamines in the CSF, and the functional role of antibodies. Chapter V, "Proteins of CNS and CSF-Origin of CSF Proteins," is an outstanding, up-to-date review of nervous system proteins, and deserves special attention. This book should be of interest and importance to basic neurobiologists, clinical neurologists, immunologists, and neuropathologists, since methodology, clinical interpretation, and future perspectives have been presented in an integrated manner.
