✦ Synopsis

The potentiometric photoresponse of plasticized polymer [carboxylated poly(vinyl chloride)] membranes doped with a spirobenzopyran derivative was modulated significantly by specific adsorption of proteins on the membrane surface. The magnitude of the photoinduced potential of the membranes was decreased in the presence of l-15 pg ml-' of anti-DNP or 0.1-1.5 pg ml-' of avidin in solution. The possible use of the membranes as protein sensor materials is discussed in terms of response time, selectivity and re-usability.
