## Abstract ## BACKGROUND Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is characterized by von Hippel‐Lindau gene inactivation and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) overproduction. The mechanism of VEGF overproduction may involve protein kinase C (PKC) delta and zeta isoforms. UCN‐01 (7‐hydroxystaurosporine
