✦ Synopsis
The purpose of this paper is to propose a method to create ''setsumei-sekinin'' of professionals in science and technology (S&T). ''Setsumeisekinin'' means social responsibility of explanation to society. We conducted a social survey and discussed the required elements of explanation, time, field, and elucidator in three contexts. Second, we discuss the appropriate explanatory methods. The results of our survey were as follows:
(1) the suitable timeframe was from three hours to one day, (2) an explanatory meeting was demanded for the field of explanation, (3) third party scientists were expected to be elucidators, and (4) the general public demanded visual presentations, translation of technical terms, and scientific data in the explanation.
