micrographs showed that microbe can grow well on ABC. The quinoline removal by the BABC was divided into 3 stages, adsorption, interim and degradation. The degradation played a key role in these stages, which was related to the optical density of bacteria in the solution. In contrast, the adsorption of quinoline on BABC only happened at the first stage. The BABC exhibited higher treatment capacity and longer use life than did ABC.

Mesoporous carbons were synthesized by in-situ polymerized silica gel networks as a template. The co-condensation of carbon precursor (sucrose) and silica precursor (sodium silicate) followed by heat treatment generated a carbon / silica nanocomposite. After etching the silica template, mesoporous c
