✦ Synopsis

Measurements of the propagation of UHF radio wa¨es in two trapezoidal tunnels are reported. Values of propagation loss in dBr100 m are gi¨en. It is found that the propagation attenuates at least 900 MHz. In addition, a portable FM radio system operating at 900 MHz is tested in one tunnel. It achie¨es a highly intelligible communication range of 230 m.

This letter deals with the excitation of UHF radio wa¨es in tunnels. It is found that the antenna position and the antenna gain are two major factors that affect the excitation of radio wa¨es in tunnels. The antenna in the middle position and with high gain is preferable. Furthermore, the enhancemen

It is well known that an elastic homogeneous half-space does not allow torsional surface waves to propagate. The present paper attempts to find out the possibility of propagation of such waves in a viscoelastic half-space. The study reveals that although the homogeneous elastic half-space does not

The computational modelling of localization of deformation in cohesive-frictional materials must be carried out in a proper, accurate and efficient manner. A proper solution can be obtained by using an enriched material description such as a non-local damage model or Perzyna's viscoplasticity model.
