โœฆ Synopsis

The arrival of thermal pulses propagating through glass is retarded at high excitation energies. The retardation time is approximately proportional to the excitation energy, suggesting characteristics of nonequilibrium phonons at high densities in glass. The late time signal decays approximately exponentially with a decay constant independent of excitation energy.

The exponential decay of phonon intensity observed in both experiments and simulations for the quasidiffusive propagation regime reflects the elastic and inelastic scattering process of high frequency phonons.
