Abstract
Transmission‐line transformers with different impedance variation patterns and printed on substrates with very high dielectric constant (ε~r~ = 80) are compared and the influence of the total length is studied. The propagation characteristics of the tapered lines were investigated using the finite‐element method. Dispersion effects and impedance variation with respect to the frequency have been taken into account in the analysis. The obtained results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions for ideal tapers, especially at low frequencies. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
