โฆ Synopsis
Table (p. 1621) presents a recommendation from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force that is now 7 years old. Our current recommendation statement, 2 released in July 2002, strongly recommends screening in individuals older than age 50 years. The statement provides comments regarding the evidence available for the different screening modalities. The Task Force concluded that "the choice of a specific screening strategy should be based on patient preferences, medical contraindications, patient adherence, and available resources for testing and follow-up. Clinicians should talk to patients about the benefits and potential harms associated with each option before selecting a screening strategy."
The reference in the table should be to the July 2002 U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendation statement itself and not to the evidence review upon which the recommendation was based.
