On the positive side, the conference succeeded in bringing together a large number of people from throughout the world to share ecotourism theories, policies, plans, developments and management models. As with most conferences, it also allowed participants to network with others and the key outcome of the conference was the realization that ecotourism is not a passing fad, but has well and truly arrived, bearing the promise of environmental conservation, community well-being and economic benefits. Full credit for organizing this conference belongs to Professor Dorival Correia Bruni, President of BIOSFERA and Conference Convertor. His enthusiasm in the face of considerable difficulties leading up to and throughout the conference is to be commended.

Director Andrew Hughes is also to be congratulated for his handling of issues related to the overseas delegates.

A major strength of the conference was the Exhibition. With approximately 90 exhibitors in a huge exhibition hall, the venture was large, colourful, practical and exciting. While many exhibitors were from Brazil, there were a number of other South
