In
a prospective investigation of sex therapy with 154 couples with a range of sexual dysfunctions, good outcome was associated with pretreatment measures of the quality of the couples' general relationships, sexual relationships, their motivation and the extent of progress made by the third treatment session. Important sex differences were found in terms of how prognosis related to the motivation of the male and female partners, and also to their assessments of their general relationships. The findings are considered in terms of how they can assist in the selection of couples most likely to benefit from sex therapy.
