โฆ Synopsis
Joe McCutchan was best known professionally for his work on pilot plant developments of tubular reverse osmosis systems_ These were pioneering efforts with hand-cast membranes in the mid-60's . Successful operation of the early plants at Coalinga and Firebaugh, California, are a tribute to Joe's engineering talents . They demonstrated the feasibility of renovating brackish and agricultural waste waters . The membrane manufacturers and other firms in the RO field owe much to Joe's innovations .
On the personal side I would like to say a few words about Joe IMcCutchan the man . My affiliation with him for nearly 20 years has been a privilege to me . I have learned much from Joe, about engineering, research, teaching and the myriad of details in the University system . More than anything, however, this man taught me about humility, warmth, and concern for other human beings . I also learned from him, during this past year, what courage really means .
Joe McCutchan has been an inspiration to his family, his students, and all those who had the good fortune of knowing this gentle man . His loss will be felt in the desalination community and I personally will miss him very much .
