Ian Livingstone was a leading international development economist for over three decades, cruelly taken from us while still at the peak of his powers when he died in September 2001 as the result of a brain tumour. He was an original member of the Development Studies Association's Council at the time when the 1978 AGM (held during the Annual Conference at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow) formally established the Association.
