Health-care-relaled professionals rated the appropriateness and referred timing of various community intervention strategm for assisting the kreaved individual. Resulh indicated: (a) agreement about the general need for such :issistance programs, but no cousensw ss to which were most appropriate; (b) endorsement, of the"rcmmption of wtivity" ethic; ( c ) belief that the mmt, desirable period in which to intervene is within six months from the death; and (d) t.he lesser perceived suilddity of therapeutic modalities that. involve social vonttlct wit.h nonfamily members immediately following the death. Earlier introduction of family therapy and multiple family counseling was advocated by rwpondents with greater experience treating the bereaved.
