✦ Synopsis
Current literature suggests that counselors need to take into consideration the social construction of gender and its role in the psychological development of women and men and their presenting concerns. The inclusion of gender aware assessment practices in counseling on college campuses is proposed. Suggestions for ways counseling centers can affect social and institutional practices that negatively affect female and male students are presented. The importance of counselors engaging in social action directed at improving the college environment for all students is emphasized.
