✦ Synopsis
Bruno Du ¨rigen (1853--1930) was interested in natural sciences in general, especially in the broad field of zoology. Initially self-educated, as a guest student he completed his studies at the Berlin University, obtained an honorary doctorate and even became an honorary professor for poultry science at the Agricultural Academy, Berlin. This contribution illustrates his industrious and successful working life as well as his achievements in the fields of herpetology, vivarium-and specifically poultry science.
