✦ Synopsis
Products of Reductive Degradation of α‐(Acyloxy)plasmalogens from Bovine Tissue Lipids
If bovine tissue lipids are treated with LiAlH~4~, two types of unexpected products are detectable: 1‐Acetylglycerols (homologs of compound 2) and α‐hydroxylated glycerol acetals (homologs of compounds 7 and 8). This fact was assumed to indicate the presence of α‐(acyloxy)plasmalogens 1, an up to now unknown class of mammalian tissue lipids. To confirm this assumption, the model compound 6 possessing an enol ether‐enol acetate structure was synthesized and teated with LiAlH~4~. Corresponding derivatives of 1‐acylglycerols 2 as well as α‐hydroxylated glycerol acetals 7 and 8 were produced, thus confirming the existence of α‐(acyloxy) plasmalogens 1 in tissue of natural origin. They are detectable by GC and GC/MS after conversion of free hydroxy groups with diazomethane/silica gel into the corresponding methyl ether derivatives.
