✦ Synopsis

Thermal degradation of PTFE has been carried out in a horizontal tubular reactor. The influence of the temperature and the reaction atmosphere on the degradation products generated has been studied. Different runs (pyrolysis and fuel rich atmosphere) in the range 750-1050 8C were performed. In pyrolysis runs, only C 2 F 4 and C 3 F 6 as perfluorocarbon compounds were found. Under oxidative conditions, C 2 F 6 , C 3 F 6 and CF 4 were detected, varying their percentages as a function of temperature and oxygen proportion in the atmosphere. A low percentage of semivolatiles were also analyzed in all the cases studied, although only few fluorinated compounds were identified in this group.

The present work explores an alternative method to the one generally employed for the pyrolysis of sewage sludge. This method consists in carrying out the pyrolysis of a wet sewage sludge as it is produced in the water treatment plant, i.e. with a typical moisture content of between 70 and 80 wt%, w

Tiny particles (< 107 #m) of seven coals have been added continuously to flat, premixed flames of H 2 + 02 + Ar with temperatures at or above 2000 K. Every flame contained excess 02, so that, e.g., carbon ends up totally as CO 2. The first volatiles burned on a particle's exterior, but subsequent on
