A number of tryptophan plus tyrosine double auxotrophic mutants isolated by NTG treatment of a glntamic acid producing strain of A . globiformis were found to excrete phenylalanine alone in glucose, ammonium chloride, mineral salt medium. Among 24 different carbon sources tested glucose was found to
