The Silicon-Film TM technology is designed to capture the low costs attributed to thin ®lms while retaining the high performance and stability of crystalline silicon. The progression of the Silicon-Film TM technology is followed from the concept stage through the various development stages and into manufacturing. Results at key development stages, the lessons learned and some of the pitfalls along the commercialization path are described. Some university research opportunities are discussed.
