✦ Synopsis

The process of cure has been studied for a loaded maleic polyester resin. Experiments were carried out by using a metal mould heated by silicone oil. A numerical model was built in order to describe the process and it was tested. The model based on a numerical method with finite differences takes into account all the facts including heat transfer by convection through the oil to the metal mould and heat transfer by conduction through the mould and the resin. The model is capable of providing more information than experiments, with the profiles of temperature and state of cure developed throughout the resin.
