✦ Synopsis

The paper attempts a comprehensive exposition of coherent computational concepts applicable to the optimization of process design in metal forming. For this purpose the analysis procedure is brie y reviewed and the design problem is stated. The issue of design sensitivity is discussed for various objectives. They comprise the design and control of forming processes under quasistationary and transient conditions, respectively. Both, isothermal and thermomechanical operations are considered. Elementary algorithms for the treatment of design problems are presented, and applications are indicated.

This paper develops a numerical technique for determining the shape sensitivity parameters in steady metalforming processes such as drawing and rolling. The adjoint method is applied to the discrete non-linear system of equations in the finite element model in order to determine the discrete matrix

Forming limit plays a very important role in metal forming processes since it can be used to predict whether a blank will fracture or not. This paper examines the influence on forming limit of blank and fractured thickness. The fractured thickness of a specimen in the simple tension test is adopted
