A general outline was given of the traffic conditions at the port of New York as far as they affect the necessity for vehicular tunnels under the Hudson, or North River. Descriptions were given of the various official bridge and tunnel plans thus far proposed. The important engineering phases were discussed, especially those relating to the ventilation of tunnels.
