✦ Synopsis
Sixty-three conferees gathered at the Air Force Conference Site in Orlando, Florida, to discuss their latest findings in the field of fatigue mechanisms. Overseas representatives were present from England, Scotland, Argentina, Switzerland and Australia. Twelve invited papers were given which formed the core of the conference and they are published here in the order of their p~sentation at Orlando. The afternoon of the second day was devot,ed to short contributed papers on current research in progress. Those contributions which could be put into suitable form for publication by the imposed deadline date are also included in these proceedings. Discussion following the papers was lively and at times lengthy. Because of space limitations and the desire for prompt publication of the papers, no effort has been made to include the discussions in this issue of Acta ~e~~Z~rg~~.
