โฆ Synopsis
Conducted two studies to determine (a) whether AWOL offenders had experienced more frequent or severe problems; and (b) whether AWOL offenders utilize less appropriate problem-solving strategies. In the first study, 39 AWOL and 39 control Ss answered a problem questionnaire. Factor analysis revealed four types of problems. AWOL Ss reported more problems, but both frequency and severity differences varied for the different problem types. The second study showed that AWOL offenders ( N = 36) reported fewer non- AWOL solutions and less adequate solutions to problems than did controls (A' = 34). Results suggest that problem events combined with deficient problem-solving skills and a lack of social support from the army social environment may result in AWOL.
