✦ Synopsis

The distribution of the number of hard-core objects deposited in a finite region through a random sequential adsorption process is analyzed. Three idealized model probability distributions for this problem are tested by comparing them with computer simulation distributions for the random sequential adsorption of hard-disks on a fiat surface. A hypergeometric distribution where the effects of mutual exclusion between particles are incorporated by a coverage dependent effective volume per particle is shown to give best agreement with simulation results. This effective volume is derived in terms of the fluctuations in the particle number. Finite size effects in the fluctuations are taken into account.

This note presents an analytical method for calculating the minimal energy required to evaluate overall adsorption using Dubinin-Radushkevich theory. The method produces a result that is at least two orders of magnitude more accurate than that possible with numerical techniques.

The pair distribution function and equation of state of a hard-sphere fluid are calculated for seveIltl modifications of the Percus-Yevick (TY) theory by means of a perturbation calculation in which the zerothorder term is the PY result. Even in first order, this technique provides a very simple way
