✦ Synopsis
Abstract
A quad‐band printed planar inverted‐F antenna with two meander strips is proposed, designed, and tested. Its geometry is mainly comprised of an inverted meandered U‐shaped shorting strip and a tunable T‐shaped shorting strip for providing two operating bands at center frequency about 900 MHz and 1940 MHz to cover four bands: GSM, DCS, PCS, and UMTS with a small area of 15 × 33 mm^2^. The antenna can be easily fed by a 50‐Ω feed‐line without any external matching circuit or lumped circuit elements for size reduction or bandwidth enhancement. It is easy to fabricate at low cost and especially fit for thin‐profile mobile phone application. Good impedance and radiation performances are obtained. Details of the proposed antenna and the obtained results are also presented. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
