Altapasaeda, capital of the Castoval, is under siege by its own King - and Easie Damasco is trapped within the cities' besieged walls. Incensed by his son's death and the recent rebellion led by Castilio Mounteban, King Panchessa has determined to end Castovalian independence once and for all. With Altapasaeda in turmoil and its people at each other's throats, it looks as if the battle will be a short one.
Only Mounteban has a solution to offer. There is one living heir to the throne of Pasaeda: the illegitimate son of Moaradrid, himself the illegitimate son of the King. Far to the north, rebels have set this bastard prince up as a figurehead for their plans to throw off Pasaedan rule. If our heroes could kidnap this warlord-in-the-making, he might be used as a bargaining chip to end the war on both fronts - or as part of a coup to end the tyrannical Panchessa's rein once and for all.
