✦ Synopsis

This paper is concerned with several topics in the harmonic analysis of discrete nilpotent groups. We study two topologies on the primitive ideal space and the space of characters, the separation of points in the former with the hull-kernel topology, a weak Frobenius reciprocity property and a Bochner theorem for traces on complete nilpotent groups. 1997 Academic Press Prim(C*(G)) of primitive ideals of the group C*-algebra with the hullkernel topology. Another is the set of all characters Ch(G): extremal, normalized, central, positive definite functions on G. The Gelfand Naimark Segal construction assigns to every character . of G a factor representation article no. FU973115
