Wound closure in patients with perforated appendicitis is still controversial because of the high incidence of wound infection'. The advent of better antimicrobial agents, especially against anaerobes, has decreased the frequency of septic complications associated with this condition'.'.

The incidence of complications following primary closure of wounds in children with perforated appendicitis was studied to assess the safety of this technique.
