β¦ Synopsis
The photolysis of n's-l,2-dichloroethylene has been investigated in the presence of 1 2
The results as a function of incident w$velength and as a function of initial cix pressure. indicate that at > 2200A the following primary processes occur:
The lifetime of the excited state yielding the above products is estimated at about 2.4 X 10-9 sec. At shorter wavelengths additional C9H2 is produced by decomposition of a vibrationally excited C BH zC1 radical.
Scavenging of the CHCICH radical by 1 2 produced trans-and cis-CHCICH1 in a ratio of 4 to I , respectively.

The photolysis of SOz at 3712 A in the presence of the 1,2-dichloroethylenes has been investigated at 22Β°C. The data are consistent with the SOz( 3B1) photosensitized isomerization of the 1,2-dichloroethylene isomer. A kinetic treatment of the initial quantum yield data was consistent with the forma
The room temperature photolysis of 1,l-dichloroethane at 147 nm in the pressure range of 1.34-196.2 torr is characterized almost entirely by the molecular elimination of HCl, Cl,, and small quantities of HD. While it is possible that the C2HD arises, in part, from the decomposition of vibrationally
The effects of exposure of a number of differently prepared polystyrenes to long-wave u.v. (2 >1 300 nm) in 02 were investigated. The polymers undergo two distinct phases of degradation, one associated with the initial decomposition of photoqabile structures, and the other with the photolysis of ox
The photolysis of SOz at 3080 A, FWHM = I50 A, and 22Β°C has been investigated in the presence of cis-and trans-CzFzH2. Quantum yield measurements for the photosensitized isomerization of cis-C2FZH2 to trans-CzFzH2 have been made for a variation in the [SO2]/[czs-C2F2H2] ratio from 0.992 to 253. The
