THE nail-bed is an unusual site for malignant disease. Both malignant melanoma and squamous carcinoma are described. Of the latter, 25 examples have been traced in the literature since 1850, and the earliest description to appear in the British journals was by Jonathan Hutchinson (1885). CASE REPORTS Case 1.-Mrs. E. W., aged 78 years (Case No. R 9873), was admitted to Westminster Hospital on Sept. 20, 1955, complaining of pain and swelling in the distal phalanx of the left index finger for seven years.
