Lower respiratory tract illness due to Mycoplasma pneumoniae is typically mild and self-limited. There are, however, numerous reports of serious and life-threatening cases of mycoplasma pneumonia in adults. We present a case involving a 4-year-old girl with severe mycoplasma infection and necrotizin

or N-terminal peptide (1-34) [4] (3.2 pg/ml) (>0.8 pg). Furthermore, the expression of mRNA for F'TH-rP was detected in cultured leukemic cells by RT-PCR (Fig. 1). IL-la and IL-IP were not detected in the culture supernatant.
Recently, Seymour et al.
[5] reported a hypercalcemic patient with CML, in whom serum PTH-rP levels were high; however, they did not determine the cellular source of PTH-rP. In our patient, we showed both the production of FTH-rP and expression of its mRNA in cultured leukemic cells, as well as high PTH-rP levels in the plasma and urine. This is the first report of PTH-rP production by CML leukemic cells. PTH-rP may also be responsible for hypercalcemia in hematological malignancies.
