✦ Synopsis

A competitive swimmer developed migraine headache after exercise. A prescribed warm-up regimen prevented further headaches. Omission of the warm-up led to recurrence. (Headache 25:317-319, 1985) Migraine headache results from abnormal cerebral vascular activity. In the prodromal phase of an attack, the patient experiences cerebral vasoconstriction and diminished cerebral blood flow. This phase is followed by the painful headache phase, in which cerebral vessels dilate and blood flow increases.
