The Institute of Gas Technology has conducted pressurized fluidized-bed hydroretorting (PFH) tests of six Eastern US oil shales in batch and continuous laboratory-scale reactors. Batch tests were conducted to determine the effects of temperature (from 480 to 590ยฐC) and pressure (from 2.8 to 7.0MPa)
Condor and Stuart oil shales were pyrolysed with superheated steam at 45G6OOC in a 48 mm diameter semi-continuous fluidized-bed reactor. Temperature had a significant influence on the yields of products and on the ratio of light oils (C, -340ยฐC) to heavy oils (+34o"C). By contrast, the organic carbo
