✦ Synopsis

The detection of gases with piezogravimetric chemical sensors results from the accumulation of molecules at the sensor coating. The coverage of the coating depends on the partial pressure of the gas to be measured. According to Dalton's Law, a change in the total pressure leads to a proportional variation of the partial pressure. For this it is possible to modulate the partial pressure of a gas to be measured by varying the pressure of the atmosphere in the measurement chamber, since the signal of the sensor does not change with the pressure of nitrogen or synthetic air. The advantage of pressure modulation in the dynamic investigation is that the influence of the geometry of the measurement chamber is negligible and it is possible to obtain information about the sensors rate of action for certain coatings and gases.
