β¦ Synopsis
Results are reported from an investigation of the effect of pressure on the superconducting transition temperature T~ in the two CeTaB z (T = Ru, Os) compounds. In CeOs2B 2, the ambient pressure T c of 3.34 K is depressed linearly by pressure up to 65kbar with dTc/dp=-7mK/kbar. In contrast, the isoelectronic CeRu3B2, with a T c of 1.10K, shows an initial enhancement of T~ by pressure with dTc/d p = 20 mK/kbar up to about 30 kbar. T c goes through a maximum of 1.72 K at about 33 kbar, after which additional pressure causes a decline in T c. An analysis in terms of the lattice and electronic contributions to these distinctly different pressure dependences is presented.

The new superconductor MgCNi 3 with a T C 8 K is an interesting candidate for non-conventional superconductivity as it is in the borderline of ferromagnetism. We have performed a systematic study of several samples of this compound under pressures up to 25 GPa, measuring the electrical resistivity b
The polarization of the triplet-triplet absorption spectrum of phenanthrenedro in the region from 3500 to 8500 A has been recorded. The 3BI state is located at about 4250 A. The possibility that phenanthrene might be a suitable chromophore for laser dye synthesis is discussed.
