✦ Synopsis

The pitch of two cholestcric mixtures of cholestcryio!cylcarbonate/cholestcrylchloridc is sensitively influenced by ambient static external pressure. The measurement of the wavelength of m&mum light reflection of these mescphases up to 2000 bars yields a remarkable red-shift. This shift can be understood on the basis of the improved theory of Resting when taking into account the probably large incrcasc of the mesophase viscosity with pressure. Perhaps, however, the effect must be cxplaincd in terms of phase transitions.
