โฆ Synopsis
Corey ( '30), working with the rat, and Wislocki ( '31), with the rabbit, determined the approximate age at which these animals first gave marked rcsponses to gonad-stimulating hormones. A correlation of the findings of the above workers with the studies of Hargitt ( '30) and Allen ('04) on the postnatal iievelopnient of the ovary in the respective species indicates that the time of first typical rcsponses to stiinulatioii coincides with the appearance of well-formed antra in the follicles of the ovary.
Preliminary to studies o n experimental ovulation in the immature sow, it was deemed necessary to determine the approximate age and weight of the aninials at the time the successive stages of follicular development occur and also the ability of the ovary t o respond to gonad-stimulating influences while in the different stages.
PR.EPUBERAL DEVELOPMENT O F THE ROW OVABY
Ovaries of sixteen purebred Porkshire, Poland China, and Duroc Jersey gilts, ranging from 1 to 112 days of age and from 2 to 96 pounds in weight, were studied. In most of these cases the degree of follicular development was determined by histological examination (table 1). Among these animals four
