โฆ Synopsis
ultiple myeloma presents a challenge to immunologists and clinicians. It is an aggressive disease where malignant plasma cells locate in bone marrow and cause bone loss, renal disease and immunodeficiency. Current chemotherapeutic treatments have only limited success and there is a pressing need for new approaches. Although it may appear ambitious to try to turn the immune system against a tumour derived from B cells, our increasing understanding of tumour behaviour, coupled with development of novel vaccine technology, is leading to the point where vaccines can be tested in patients.
