✦ Synopsis

molecules would at first form metastable polymer molecules. These intermediate species may then either undergo "depolymerization" or be transformed into stable polymer. Perhaps this type of mechanism may be extended to explain the phenomenon of postpolymerization. It has been noted that the application of pressure before the post-polymerization of trioxane completely inhibits the reaction [1O*J. This effect may be due to the destruction of trapped, unstable intermediates, such as excited molecules.
