✦ Synopsis

A new and simple method for the preparation of protohemin monomethyl ester was described. The method is involved with the direct esterification of a propionic acid group of hemin, followed by column chromatography on silica gel. The physical properties (ir, solubility, tic, etc.) of the product was intermediate between those of protohemin and protohemin dimethyl ester.
