iWee bis(oxalato)ytterbate(I.II) salts, viz., (Quino-line~H)Yb(C20&3H20, (IsoquinolineH)Yb(C2-0&3H20, and (MorpholineH)Yb(C20.&4H20, were prepared by the reaction of Ybc1~~6H20 with the corresponding heterocycle and oxalic acid in aqueous medium. 7'he pentachloroholmates(III), (PyridineH)2HoClsH20, (Isoquinoline-H)2HOCIs8 3H20, and (AcridineH)2HoC!s*5H20 were obtained by the reaction of HoClJ6H20

with the azaheterocycle and hydrochloric acid in water. The new compounds were characterized on the basis of their elemental analysis and their infrared spectra. The electronic absorption spectra of the holmium salts were recorded.
