## Abstract **BACKGROUND:** This paper describes the use of cotton stalk, an agricultural waste, for the preparation of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) using microwave heating. The study includes the optimization of pre‐treatment and preparation processes, and the characterization of product.
