✦ Synopsis

Irradiation of optically active crystalline amino acids as targets in the bremsstrahlung of a 65 MeV linear electron accelerator results, among other things, in the production of amino acids with one HC-atom inserted. The chirality of the compound produced is retained. Separation of these amino acids is possible within 20 min by means of preparative high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC).
