Anion exchangeable layered mixed basic salt (LMBA) Ni 1؊x Zn 2x (OH) 2 (OCOCH 3 ) 2x nH 2 O thin film was deposited onto a glass slide substrate through the hydrothermal decomposition of mixed aqueous solution of zinc and nickel acetates. The molar ratio of Zn/Ni in mixed solution affected the orientation of LMBA crystals on the substrate. LMBA thin films obtained at 130°°C in Zn rich solutions showed c-axis orientation perpendicular to the substrate surface. The acetate ions of oriented LMBA thin film easily exchanged with most of the inorganic, as well as the organic, anions without destruction of the thin film.
